Production News

Production is now underway in Thailand on The Scorpion King 3, a second sequel to Universal Pictures 2002 fantasy action hit The Scorpion King.

The film stars Billy Zane, Ron Perlman, Dave Batista and Kimbo Shine. Female leads are Thai starlet Krystal Vee and the UK actress and martial artist Selina Lo. Directed by Roel Reine, the film is shooting at locations including Kanchanaburi, Buriram and studios in Bangkok. Production continues until the first week of December. Local line production is by The Grand Elephant.

Producers are Leslie Belzberg and Universal’s Patti Jackson.

The budget is understood to be in the region of $6 million and the completed film set as a direct-to-DVD release in 2011. The plot involves the hunt for a medallion.

The first Scorpion King (pictured) was directed by Chuck Russell and became a hit for Universal in 2002. Made on a budget of $60 million it starred Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Kelly Hu and grossed $90 million in North America and a further $27 million in Europe. Russell Mulcahy directed Scorpion King: Rise of a Warrior which starred Michael Copon, Randy Couture and Karen David as a prequel to the first film. It was released direct to DVD in 2008.

Repeated enquiries to the film's on-site unit publicist yielded no comment.

It's got a couple other people you might know in it too...
